There has been a great deal of interest in the potential benefits of a cohousing community as an environment for raising children. One of the earliest treatises on cohousing was even entitled ‘Every Child Should Have One Hundred Parents’. Communal living may lead to the development of greater social skills earlier in life and a chance to grow up in a safe, multi-generational environment. But what do parents think about the potential benefits and challenges of raising children in such a way? Some of the families at Springhill Cohousing, in Stroud, share their thoughts on raising children in intentional communities.
