It’s hard to imagine that amongst the fake tan, “reem” cars and white stillettos that there is a world past Sugar Hut in Essex. Unfortunately thanks to The Only Way Is Essex that’s all we are known for now. However just 30 minutes south you will come across a little village called Terling.
I have been living here for just over 19 years and as much as I complain about, just being away from it at university has made me appreciate it that little bit more. For years I have dreamed of living in a town, where the nearest public transport is not a 2 hour walk away. Where the population is not 99.9% over 60 and where my closest thing to a shop does not sell nothing but fruit, bread and corn dollies.
Moving away to university in Bournemouth was like a dream come true, everything is now literally at my fingertips. But coming home has made me appreciate those things I have taken for granted for so many years. There is nowhere in the city where you can sit and its so quiet you can hear your own heartbeat. There is no where in the city where you can go and know you will be the only person there for the rest of your day. So whilst this village is dull and lonely place for anyone my age sometimes there is something incredibly satisfying about being on your own to just, get away from everything, and I mean EVERYTHING.
